Watercolour Oils Pen & Ink Commissions

This pen and ink drawing is of Monk Bar in York at the junction of Lord Mayors Walk. Measuring 760x1500mm/30x59 inches it took me approximately 1 ½ years or 500 hours to complete. I was inspired to start this work when I came across an old photograph online which showed the street corner in the early 60s and I started to set out the view in pencil then with a 0.18mm ink pen.

The panorama shot of York came about as I was using Google Earth to move over and around York to look for new areas for a new view to paint when I stopped with the minster in full view and the surrounding streets spreading in to the distance and I thought, well that would make a wonderful painting. I started in May 2018 with a clean sheet of A0 sized paper (850x1200mm/33x47 inch) and as of December 2018 I have almost completed the pencil work which has taken approximately 100 hours and a thousand rooftops to complete. I hope to have the piece completed by early spring 2019.
